INDIAN BATTLE PARK
This nature reserve in the city of Lethbridge is home to Alberta's signature bird, the great horned owl.
The banks of the Oldman River were the scene of a battle between the Cree and Blackfoot First Nations in the last century, and today form Indian Battle Park. It is the City of Lethbridge Nature Reserve, which includes Fort Whoop Up and the Helen Schuler Coulee Centre, a protected area that showcases the flora and fauna of the valley, including Alberta's signature bird, the Great Horned Owl. This 150-hectare park was redeveloped in the 1960s and continues to commemorate the history of the battle.
