Known the world over, Deauville’s star promenade was inaugurated on July 5, 1924.

This famous and legendary seaside promenade was created by architect Charles Adda, to enable women to enjoy the scenery without the risk of soiling their dresses in the sand. Inaugurated on July 5, 1924, the Planches de Deauville celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2024! Known the world over, this 656-meter long promenade has become a fashionable place where celebrities like to be seen without wanting to show off. In short, a veritable theater of human comedy! The "Tout-Paris" of the Roaring Twenties flocked to Deauville's star promenade: Josephine Baker, Mistinguett, Sacha Guitry, Coco Chanel (who opened a boutique where elegant women could buy their beach hats!)... Listed as a historic monument, the Planches are to Deauville what the Promenade des Anglais is to Nice! Along the way, admire the cabins bearing the names of the stars who walked the famous azobe wood during the Deauville American Film Festival, and linger over the inner courtyards and their Pompeian baths. In front of the baths, at the very beginning of Les Planches, is the Place Claude-Lelouch, inaugurated on the waterfront in 2006 in the presence of the director and actors to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the film Un homme, une femme, and which associates Deauville with the eternal rendezvous of lovers and romance. Cha ba da ba da, cha ba da ba da... Bars and restaurants form gourmet stops along the Planches. Maybe you'll bump into one of our stars!
