ICEFIELDS PARKWAY
The Icefields Parkway where you can admire the Athabasca Falls, Sunwapta Pass, the Icefield Center, Peyto Lake...
The Icefields Parkway, also known as Highway 93, is a highway located in Alberta, Canada. It crosses the Rocky Mountains through Banff National Park and Jasper National Park. The route (232 km) follows the inevitable "Icefields Parkway", overlooked by broken peaks, jagged rock masses and glaciers. You drive for hours on a highway surrounded by glaciers as far as the eye can see, courtesy of prehistoric times. The highway alone is worth the trip. The highway, which is sometimes crossed by white mountain goats, passes close to the mighty Athabasca Falls (32 km south of Jasper) and the Columbia Icefield.
You will need to pay a national park fee to drive this route ($10.50 CDN per person per day). The speed limit is 90 km/h and animals are not uncommon. Please be alert and careful. Ask for a detailed brochure on this road at the park's tourist information center. They will also be able to advise you on all the hikes available on the route with their conditions and restrictions (bad weather, presence of bears, landslides...).
The main attractions along the way are: Athabasca Falls (km 31), Sunwapta Falls (km 55), the Columbia Icefield, Athabasca Glacier, and the Icefield Center (km 103), Sunwapta Pass (2,035 m) which marks the boundary between Jasper and Banff National Parks (km 108) and Peyto Lake (km 190).
