Magnificent murals with local connotations depicting scenes of First Nations and pioneer life.
To revitalize this community with its moribund economy, the Chemainus Mural Project was launched in the early 1980s. From the original 5 murals we've gone up to 44 today. Some of the frescoes are really beautiful and many have local historical connotations, depicting scenes of First Nations life, pioneers, lumberjacks in their sawmills, miners, village scenes, and so on. Some are even inspired by the artist Emily Carr.

Ce village est exceptionnel pour ses fresques murales ; les vieilles maisons en bois ont été restaurées et toute l'histoire de la ville est peinte sur les murs.
