Every year since 1967, an extravagant bathtub race has been held in Nanaimo for four days. 58 kilometres to Vancouver for the more serious, and around Nanaimo for the amateurs. Nearly 200 participants compete in boats and motorboats, made with the help of bathtubs, decorated and fitted out in their own way. The Neck Point and Pipers Lagoon parks, within the city of Nanaimo, offer a great opportunity to observe the race.
