In addition to mail, the mail freighter M.V. Frances Barkley brings supplies to remote communities. On the Alberni Inlet and Barkley Sound routes, you may encounter orcas and bears. The expedition departs from Port Alberni and reaches Bamfield (start of the West Coast Trail) via Kildonan, then crosses the waters of Barkley Sound and the Broken Group Islands before arriving in Ucluelet. Kayakers can embark, and will be dropped off at Sechart, the starting point for kayak expeditions through the Broken Group Islands.
