MARINE BUILDING
Building, with remarkable sculptures, ceramics and bas-reliefs, one of the finest examples of the Art Deco style in Vancouver.
Built in 1930, this building is one of the finest examples of the Art Deco style in Vancouver. The outside is worth a long stop to observe the bas-reliefs representing ships, seaweed and marine animals. The entrance portal is surmounted by an impressive bas-relief depicting the arrival of the ship HMS Discovery from George Vancouver under the sun's rays and a flight of wild geese. Other exterior sculptures, ceramics or bas-reliefs depict ships such as Captain Drake's Golden Hind or the steamer Beaver.
