A remarkable steam clock, designed by Raymond Saunders in 1977, in Vancouver.

Designed by clockmaker Raymond L. Saunders in 1977, the clock is powered by an underground heating system that also serves some surrounding buildings. Weighing more than 2 tons, its components cost about $42,000 CAN. In 2014, its two-month renovation cost $50,000 CAD, almost as much as it cost to build. Every quarter of an hour, the clock whistles the same music as Big Ben in London, seeing dozens of tourists crowd around it and brightening up the main street of Gastown for a few seconds.
