MOUNTAIN WHISTLER
Whistler Mountain with a lift northwest of Garibaldi Provincial Park accommodating skiers and hikers.
Formerly called London Mountain, the mountain was renamed for fear that the reference to bad English weather would repel too many tourists... The name, now official, of Whistler comes from the word whistle which means to whistle in English, as do the marmots that can be heard in the mountain pastures. Whistler Mountain is part of the Coast Mountains and peaks at 2,081 metres above sea level. Located at the northwestern boundary of Garibaldi Provincial Park, the summit welcomes skiers and hikers who access the mountain by a ski lift.
