HISTORIC ACADIAN VILLAGE
Historic village in Bertrand with a museum, restaurant and hotel open to the public in the heart of the park.
The Village historique acadien, located in Bertrand, near Caraquet, is a real time machine. Like an amusement park, the village has a huge parking lot, cash registers at the entrance and a gift store, but the experience quickly takes the visitor into a whirlwind of history and memory that will leave a lasting impression. Inaugurated in 1977, the Village tells the story of the descendants of the French men and women who crossed the Atlantic in the early 17th century and settled in the region, making up the oldest French-speaking people in North America, the Acadians. This living museum has its houses, farms, businesses, church, school, etc., but in versions from 1770 to 1949. Visitors soon find themselves totally immersed with the local inhabitants, offering a short cart ride, a visit to a farm or the making of sheep's wool clothing with period tools. The actors are at ease in their functions, they carry out the tasks of their daily life while answering the multiple questions of the visitor often disturbed to find themselves between reality and fiction. Interpreters in period costumes bring to life ancestral customs and traditional trades, under the amazed eyes of children and adults alike. The village stretches over 2 km and you can observe the construction of a house, enter a farmhouse at mealtime and watch a family having lunch, attend the children's class or watch the village newspaper being printed on machines from another age. A restaurant serving typical Acadian dishes allows you to take a gourmet break from the excellent quality of ancestral dishes (there is also a café-bistro at the visitor center and a bar at the hotel). Having crossed the chronologically themed park, we arrive at the beginning of the railroad and the first cars. The Château Albert Hotel (without telephone or television) is open to the public wishing to prolong the immersion in the heart of the park. Please note that the admission ticket entitles you to two days on the site during the opening season. It is also possible to have a thematic guided tour of the Village (fees extra, reservation required). Plan to spend at least half a day on the site, or more to fully enjoy it. Activities and events are also programmed. Stores on site.
