GRAND TINTAMARRE – FESTIVAL ACADIEN DE CARAQUET

Although it takes place throughout Acadie, it is in Caraquet that the largest annual Tintamarre is found. It is the culmination of the Festival Acadien, which starts on August 1 ^{st and offers dozens of events: race of old cars, balls, concerts, exhibitions, election of the couple Evangeline and Gabriel, etc. Programming changes every year but the party and always intense.}

The highlight of the show therefore occurs every August 15 th since 1979 a. m. sharp. Boulevard Saint-Pierre Ouest de Caraquet closes in the traffic to leave the thousands of Acadians dressed with fanciful costumes. The principle is very simple: make as much noise as possible with improvised instruments, the idea being to say as loudly as possible «one is alive», referring to the multiple suffering of Acadian history. It is an identity symbol and one of the greatest festivals expressing the pride and honour of being Acadian.
