THE HECTOR HERITAGE QUAY
Schooner built in the Netherlands before 1750 which played an important role in the emigration of the Scots in 1773 to Pictou.
This schooner became famous when it played an important role in the emigration of Scots in 1773, most of whom came from Lochbroom. The voyage lasted eleven weeks and the schooner carried 189 settlers, nearly twenty of whom died on board from smallpox and dysentery. More than 30 years ago, the Ship Hector Foundation was created to raise funds to build a replica of the Hector to commemorate its transatlantic voyage. Next to the Hector is an interpretive center where you can learn more about the schooner and her voyage.
