NATURAL AND HISTORICAL PARK OF THE ISLAND OF BASQUES
Nature park providing a refuge for migratory birds, guided tours and wildlife walks.
In the 15th century, the Basques, great whale hunters, built large furnaces here to extract the oil from the cetaceans (the restored remains can be visited according to the tides). It's also a place of refuge for migratory birds. Guided tours and wildlife observation hikes are organized by the Provancher Society of Canadian Natural History. Cottages for rent on the island (2 to 14 people, depending on cottage; reservations require membership).
