Charming period inn located less than 10 minutes' walk from downtown Magog. It features five bright, cozy rooms. A massage therapy service invites you to relax and enjoy a healthy retreat. There are also large gardens, a 4-season outdoor hot tub and a terrace. L'ANCESTRALE can also be rented in its entirety. A relaxing place to pamper yourself. I stayed here with my young son recently, and we absolutely loved the experience. I have stayed in many B&Bs before and many have been very good, but Lyn and Eric's place is exceptional. It felt like home.
What stood out is that Lyn doesn't just welcome guests into her house, she welcomes them into her heart. She is exceptionally caring and solicitous, and she will go out of her way to make you welcome, comfortable, and well taken care of. Anything you need, she will help you - whether it is restaurant information, reservations, any special meal request, plates or cutlery to eat in your room if you wish, or even offering you lunch if she knows you haven't had the time to eat, or are on the run! Chocolate and almonds to welcome you when you arrive in your room. A cup of hot cocoa/chocolate/tea/coffee in the evening or afternoon while relaxing/reading/studying in the living room (we were there a few days for my son's exams and didn't have time to go out sightseeing); or even brought to your room. The healthy and substantial 3-course breakfast is a variety of delights, beautifully presented and served in fine china in the pleasant dining room, and Lyn home-cooks something new each day with local ingredients, tailored to her guests' preferences. A mini-fridge near the rooms if you have your own food or snacks you want to keep fresh. The attention to detail shows. She is genuinely interested in her guests as people (not just as customers!), and despite being very busy as she is, takes the time to get to know them and talk with them. Her warmth, welcome, kindness and caring personality shine through.
On top of that, you will be regaled by music if you like! This lovely family's 2 young sons play piano and violin, and we had great fun playing music with them as well. Both kids are extremely well-behaved, courteous, pleasant, kind and respectful to guests, and my son enjoyed playing with them too. Even though we were there for exams, not for vacation, the home atmosphere really contributed to making my son feel a lot less stressed, and he credits them for helping him do his best! We had a wonderful time. We didn't want to leave!
The house has old-world charm with the chandeliers, furnishings and beautiful wood paneling and floors. It is very quiet and conducive to relaxation and peace. The rooms are also very spacious, and impeccably clean. The bed was super comfortable - too comfortable in fact, makes it hard to get out of there! The garden is like a little fairyland. The house is very centrally located, 5 min walk from restaurants, shops (and grocery story/pharmacy etc if you need it). Lyn even gave us discount coupons for the restaurants. Eric had excellent suggestions for the restaurants, was very pleasant to talk to, and my husband enjoyed talking with him quite a while. They are both very interesting people to talk to, as they are world-traveled and knowledgeable, and have lived in interesting and unusual places.
We have the warmest memories of Lyn and their wonderful family and home! If we go back to Magog for a vacation, we will stay nowhere else, it will be a pleasure to return! Dear Lyn, Eric and the boys - THANK YOU!
L'accueil est exceptionnel, ambiance chaleureuse! Les notes sont conviviaux et aux petits soins, endroit enchanteur avec une décoration champêtre! Les chambres sont magnifiques comme sur les photos, confortables et très propres. Room-service dès qu'on quitte !
