ROUGE-MATAWIN WILDLIFE RESERVE
A remarkable wildlife reserve in La Macaza, an excellent address for sport fishermen and outdoor enthusiasts.
Réserve faunique Rouge-Matawin (1,394 km²) is a delight for outdoor enthusiasts. It encompasses the fiery Rivière Rouge to the west, the mysterious Rivière Matawin to the east and over 450 lakes. Sport fishermen will be delighted by the diversity of the aquatic fauna. There is a high concentration of moose and white-tailed deer. There's also a mountainous landscape, some of which rise to 600 meters. A veritable living fresco of nature!
There are two reception points: one at La Macaza (Laurentians) and the other at Saint Michel-des-Saints (Lanaudière). There is also an unaccompanied entry point in the L'Ascension sector (Laurentians).
Wildlife: moose, black bear, white-tailed deer, wolf, lynx, hare and several bird species, including ruffed grouse, brook trout, northern pike, lake trout, bass and walleye.
Lodging: cabins (2 to 14 people), Modik cabins (max 4 people), rustic camps, ready-to-camp tents, camping.
Equipment rentals: canoes, kayaks, paddleboards, rowboats, life jackets, ice sales, lures, bait, gasoline, wood, fishing and hunting licenses.
Activities: water sports, canoe-camping, moose, black bear, white-tailed deer and small game hunting (by the day and with overnight stay), wildlife observation, forest gathering, fishing (by the day and with overnight stay), snowmobiling (80 km of trails, including a Trans-Québec section), quad biking.
