INTERCONTINENTAL MONTRÉAL
Beautiful building with indoor pool, near downtown Montreal, with a hotel and a traditional absinthe bar.
Ideally located, just a few minutes walk from downtown, this beautiful building, with access to the attractive Fortifications alley, was built in 1888 on three ashlar vaults. Restored in 1991, you will be able to discover (guided tour of the hotel possible) the old vaults that were used as warehouses for weapons, food and gunpowder. Please note: the hotel offers a traditional absinthe bar (one of the only ones in town!). Indoor salt water swimming pool and terrace.

Pros:
First of all , Mariana at the front desk was very friendly and helpful. If not for her, we were going to cancel and not stay due to the fact we were having a lot of problems navigating from the parking garage into the hotel and upon finding out the hotel has no carts to bring the luggage to the room and the valet service is $37 a day we were ready to leave but Mariana showed us the correct elevators to take and was very understanding.
Second, after a fire alarm evacuation at 2 am due to a fire in a heater motor in the 16th floor, when we finally got back into the hotel lobby area, the manager was very kind and was trying to help everyone.
Third, the hotel is attached to the World Trade Center which is very pretty and has a food court ( but closes at 5 pm).
4th. Great view- paid extra for room with a view.
5th. Bed and pillows comfy
6th. Pet welcome bag
Cons:
1. Parking is in an underground garage 10 floors down. You have to find an elevator to go up, then walk across the garage to another door and go up another elevator to get to the hotel, and then you come out and have to find the front desk ( no signage or any directionsto front desk). We got lost and ended up in the food court at first. Plus Self parking is $25 a day.
2. Not kid friendly. Very fancy and seemed more appropriate for weddings or business meetings.
3. No snack/drinks putchasing area
4. Food court in the World Trade Center closes at 5 pm.
5. The front of the hotel is hard to find and you go up escalators to the front desk. ( we came from the parking garage) Lots of walking to get to check in.
6. No pet walking area.
7. Pricing at the restaurant and bar was expensive.
8. Dated bathrooms and none of the usual types of bath gels and lotions like in many other IHG hotels which are on the wall.
9. No carts for luggage.
10. Gym - looked dead and no atmosphere. Dark and dim.
11. Dated bathroom.
We have stayed at many IHG hotels and I feel this hotel is not as family friendly as others. We do appreciate Mariana and the manager and also Oriana at the front desk.
