MARIE-REINE-DU-MONDE CATHEDRAL
Cathedral with Italian Renaissance Revival architecture, the first building to cost more than a million dollars.
Its Italian neo-Renaissance-inspired architecture does not go unnoticed in the city centre. Inaugurated by Bishop Fabre on March 25, 1894, Easter Day, the cathedral was the first building to cost more than a million dollars and the only replica of St. Peter's Basilica in Rome on the continent. Inside you should see the nave, the white and gilded wooden coffered vault, the canopy with twisted columns, the many paintings and the 23-carat gilding.
