ALDRED BUILDING
One of the first skyscrapers in Montreal, pyramid-shaped, and the tallest in the urban landscape at the time of its construction.
Sometimes compared to New York's Empire State Building, due to its Art Deco pyramid shape, the Aldred Building was one of Montreal's first skyscrapers, the tallest on the urban landscape at the time of its construction. It was also the first building in the metropolis without classical references to detail, heralding the arrival of the modern era and Art Deco. It was built between 1929 and 1931 to designs by architect Ernest Isbell Barott of the firm Barott & Blackader. Today, the building houses offices.
