NEW YORK LIFE BUILDING
The building is recognizable by its New York Italian Renaissance architecture and the Scottish red sandstone used to finish it.
Located opposite Place d'Armes and next to the Aldred Building, the New York Life Building is recognizable by its Italian Renaissance architecture of New York style and the red Scottish sandstone used for its exterior finish. At its inauguration, the building, commissioned by the New York Life insurance company, featured several technical innovations, including hydraulic elevators and water tanks for fire and electricity. Note the beautiful arabesque in the entrance doorway, the work of sculptor and modeler Henry Beaumont.
