MUSÉE D'ART CONTEMPORAIN DE MONTRÉAL - MAC
It is always a pleasure to browse the human-sized exhibitions in this beautiful space dedicated to contemporary art from here and elsewhere.
The Musée d'art contemporain (MAC) promotes modern art by exhibiting works from Quebec, Canada and abroad. All forms of expression are represented: digital and sound works, installations, paintings, sculptures, immaterial works, performances and more. The permanent collection comprises over 8,000 works, including the largest collection of works by Paul-Émile Borduas. Many cultural activities are also organized, including meetings, lectures, creative workshops, nocturnes, SéminArts, school programs, an annual collectors' symposium and much more.
Important note: the museum has undertaken a major expansion of its exhibition space (only 1% of the 8,000 works in its collection are currently on display), all in a superb demonstration of Quebec artistic know-how. The work is scheduled for completion in 2027, with reopening in January 2028 in the Place des Arts area. To guarantee access to the works, the museum is continuing its exhibitions and activities in another structure for the duration of the works. It has moved temporarily to the PVM gallery in Place Ville Marie on December1, 2021. The activities on offer may vary due to the relocation, so visit the website to keep abreast of the programming on site and online.
