PIAZZA VAUQUELINA
Created in 1930, Place Vauquelin was completely renovated in June 2017. This work is part of the major projects undertaken by the city to celebrate the 375th anniversary of the city and to showcase its heritage. Located between the Champ de Mars and rue Notre-Dame, west of the town hall, in the heart of the historic and tourist centre, the square has an innovative and contemporary design. An interactive fountain basin has been installed, adorned with new lighting and water, sound and light games. The objective? Make this square a friendly place, also making it easier to link the Champ de Mars to Jacques-Cartier Square. The number of seats has therefore been increased, a floor covering heating system installed, and better accessibility to the space is now possible thanks to the stairs and an access ramp. In short, a beautiful place to stroll around, summer and winter alike! And also the opportunity to learn more about Jean Vauquelin, a French sailor who was at the helm of several ships that set sail for New France during the 18th century.
