HALIBURTON FOREST & WILDLIFE RESERVE
Haliburton Interpretive Centre with website, offering all activities and accommodation.
Haliburton Forest & Wildlife Reserve, the work of a visionary, is well worth a visit. Summer and winter alike, this fantastic forest is a great place for outdoor enthusiasts: canoeing or kayaking, hiking, biking, snowmobiling... 17 of the 50 lakes have campgrounds. You can often see a pack of wolves in a huge protected enclosure. An interpretation center (Wolf Centre) talks about them at length. At night, an observatory equipped with powerful telescopes allows you to contemplate, in a sky without any light interference, the glittering Milky Way, the nebulae, the distant galaxies, the constellations... Those who wish to get closer to the stars can also do so during a hike on an aerial route, a guide will accompany you in this four-hour expedition between river and summit, offered twice a day. Of course, you won't have to be in the clouds all the time, as a van will bring you back down to earth, from one observation site to the next. But maybe you'll want to have wings once you've experienced the dizziness of bird life!
Visit the website to learn more about all the activities - guided or not - offered according to the season. Lodging is available on the reserve, in camping (seasonal) or in a two-bedroom cottage (year-round). Reservations are recommended for accommodations (online reservations are available).
