Youth hostel in the former Carleton County Jail, with rooms in the cells and in the renovated part.
An unconventional youth hostel as it is housed in the former Carleton County Jail (1862-1972). Some of the rooms are in the cells, while others are in the renovated part of the hostel. The cell of the last death row inmate remains intact and ready for use, and the jail's chapel is now a dining room. Guided tours are organized there and it's free. Bonus: a very central location just steps away from the Byward Market and Parliament Hill.

The HI-Ottawa hostel is unique in North America. The walls are made of stone and brick, the authentic architecture has been preserved, and the cells have been transformed into dormitories. And then, imagine calling home and announcing 'Mom, I'm in jail!

Mugshots is Ottawa's only prison bar - and probably the only one in Canada! One of Ottawa's best underground venues, Mugshots is a favorite with locals and visitors alike. Spend an evening in the Inn's courtyard, once home to the gallows where Canada's last public execution took place, but now the scene of wild electro, folk and hip-hop nights. Join us for Total T's Taco Tuesdays or Open Mic evenings with charming host and musician Claude Munson.

Atypical architecture, outside the building does not look rather austere facade. Very good welcome has the reception with excursions and bike rental.
Once on the floors, you will find yourself immersed in the environment of the prison in the barraux ones with the doors…
the dormitories are very good and the showers are part of the old cells! a whole experience.
Breakfast features will more than correct level choice.
I recommend this inn if you come has Ottawa!
