Of course, prices vary greatly depending on the type of accommodation chosen. For example, a dormitory bed in a youth hostel will not cost the same as a suite in a 5-star hotel. In low season, you can find a room in a hostel or a small hotel in a price range of $125 to $175 CAN, a rate that doubles or even more in high season or during major events. As a general rule, accommodation in Toronto is expensive compared to its neighbors Ottawa and Montreal. And this applies to all types of accommodation.
It is also important to remember that the prices quoted are always exclusive of taxes. In addition to the 13% Harmonized Sales Tax (HST), there is also a 4% hotel tax on the nightly rate (this percentage applies to Toronto and differs from city to city). All forms of payment are accepted, but smaller hotels may limit themselves to cash, traveller's cheques and/or debit cards.

As a popular destination, it is advisable to make reservations in Toronto, especially in the summer. Don't wait until the last minute to make a reservation if you are planning to attend the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), as hotels sell out during this event. However, hotel chains located near major highways (and therefore often far from the center) generally have more availability year-round.

What's very local

Toronto is home to countless luxury hotels, most of which are located on the shores of Lake Ontario, in the downtown core and in the Yorkville area. Large banners are also ubiquitous, both in the city and on the outskirts along major highways. It should be noted that in many neighbourhoods, it can be complicated to find lodging due to the almost non-existent hotel establishments. Airbnb-type offers are therefore taking over. But be careful with this type of platform in Toronto, as many of the rental units are of poor quality or overpriced.

For food lovers

Breakfast is often included in the rate (or at a small additional charge). Many hotels also have renowned restaurants featuring local or international cuisine.

Smokers

Smoking is generally prohibited in hotels, including on the balconies of rooms and on the terraces of the hotel's bars and restaurants. Smoking must also be kept away from the door of the establishment and its terraces (the law indicates 9 meters). Of course, depending on the type of accommodation, there may be some exceptions: it is often possible to smoke on the balcony or in the courtyard of a bed & breakfast and some hotels even allow smoking in the room, but this is very rare.
