FORT YORK NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE
Fort dating from 1793, considered the birthplace of Toronto, which served as a line of defence and active garrison.
Built in 1793, it is Toronto's birthplace. This fort was established by John Graves Simcoe, Governor of Upper Canada Province, as a line of defence against the United States, whose invasion was feared at the time. During the War of 1812, it was the scene of a violent battle famous in the country's history. An active garrison until the 1930s, it is now visited every year by thousands of people who came to see these remnants of war.
