Spectacular wilderness park characterized by its rugged topography, clear lakes and turbulent rivers.
This spectacular wilderness park is characterized by its rugged topography, clear lakes and swiftly flowing rivers. The course of the Lady Evelyn River is interrupted by numerous waterfalls. The most impressive waterfall is Helen Falls with a drop of more than 25 metres. Many exceptional landforms are represented in this area of the Canadian Shield. Here Precambrian rock rises to form a dome, with Ishpatina Ridge as the highest point in Ontario. At the boundary between the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence forest and the boreal forest, the park is home to a multitude of plants. The area is known for its ancient white and red pine forest ecosystems. Wildlife such as bear and moose are abundant in the area. The multitude of deep lakes and fast flowing streams provide an ideal environment for lake trout and brook trout.
Access: Lady Evelyn-Smoothwater Provincial Park is accessible by road from the north via Elk Lake. From the east, access is by boat from Mowat Landing on the Montreal River. Boat access from the east is also possible through Lake Temagami access points. Finally, seaplane access can be provided from Elk Lake, either from Sudbury or Temagami. Please note that all private aircraft must obtain a landing permit from Ontario Parks
