HURON HISTORIC GAOL
Imposing octagonal building in Goderich considered a model of humanitarian prison design.
This octagonal-shaped building is imposing and really impossible to miss. It is in fact the former Huron area prison, which was in operation from 1842 until 1972. In fact, at the time of its construction, it was considered a model of humanitarian prison design. The governor's house was built in 1901 in the courtyards of this building. The tour allows visitors to explore the past of this part of the province of Ontario. Interactive visits some evenings during the season, ask for more information (other rates apply).
