Metra serves the remote areas of Chicago and the outlying part of the city called Chicagoland. Divided into thirteen rate zones, the system extends to Kenosha, on the shores of Lake Michigan in Wisconsin, and up to 50 km south. Most trains leave from the superb Union Station, one of the last major American stations, west of the Chicago River, near the Loop. You will use this network in particular to get to the Hyde Park area, which is relatively poorly served by the CTA's subways.
