CHICAGO ARCHITECTURE CENTER
Excellent walking, bus, trolley or bike tours to learn more about Chicago's architectural history.
A Chicago institution not to be missed, theArchitecture Foundation moved across the river in 2018 to our delight. To find out more about Chicago's architectural history, this is the place to go. More than 85 types of guided tours are available, on foot, by bus or trolley, segway, bike, boat or "L" train. Discover the historic buildings of downtown, be impressed by the new skyscrapers, learn how to spot a post-modern building or discover the secrets of Millennium Park... The guides are highly professional and attentive. Walking tours are conducted in small groups and provide a wealth of information, while boat tours take place from May to the end of November. As for the bus tours, they allow everyone to grasp Chicago's cultural and architectural dynamism. Some tours take place every day, all year round, even in the dead of winter, so make sure you're well-covered and well-shod. Duration and times vary, so check the website for scheduled tours. The museum retraces the city's history - including the fire, of course - and the various waves of reconstruction. Inside the center, a boutique offers a wide range of souvenirs, from thematic books (on architecture, music and urban planning) to puzzles and original games. Not forgetting decorative items not necessarily to suit all budgets.
