JAMES R. THOMPSON CENTER
Large glass structure in a quarter circle like a space shuttle offering a visit to admire the play of mirrors
This large, quarter-circle glass structure, vaguely resembling a space shuttle, is the brainchild of Helmut Jahn, a student of Mies Van Der Rohe. Controversial from the moment it was built (1985), its modern forms and cascades of glass plates set it apart from the rest of the theater district. You can enter to admire the play of mirrors that runs across the entire surface, right up to the glass roof. Near the entrance, don't miss Monument with Standing Beast (1984), a monumental sculpture by Jean Dubuffet.
