CARBIDE AND CARBON BUILDING
Art Deco building like a champagne bottle overlooking Michigan Avenue, with a lighthouse at the top.
If you think this Art Deco building looks like a bottle of champagne, that's normal, because that was the intention of the Burnham brothers when they erected it in 1929. The tower, which rises above the terracotta base, overlooks Michigan Avenue with a lighthouse at the top that hasn't been lit in years. The bottle-green surface has been set with pure twenty-four carat gold. Above the entrance, notice the solid bronze ornaments.
