THE ARC AT OLD COLONY
Chicago skyscraper with rounded corners, designed to bring maximum natural light into the office.
Another fine example of the first skyscrapers built in Chicago at the end of the 19th century, following the Great Fire. Few ornaments on the facades, vertical lines that draw the eye upwards and a horizontal division that visually enlarges the section overlooking Van Buren Street. The Arc at Old Colony (formerly the Old Colony Building) is particularly appreciated for its round-edged windows, designed by architects Holabird and Roche, and conceived to let the maximum amount of natural light into the offices.
