ILLINOIS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY - IIT
Go there and contact
Large campus with a sober, rigid and absolutely beautiful style offering a pleasant and relaxing stroll in contact with the students
Go back to school for a while, and discover this great campus. Built entirely by modernist architect Mies van der Rohe in the 1950s, it has been awarded the prestigious American Institute of Architects. Its sober, rigid style and impeccably proportioned spaces are unmistakable. Van der Rohe imagined this university in the form of a grid, with each element placed symmetrically. Buildings next to the "L" line are soundproofed with glass panels. Make your way to State Street Village, with its "U"-shaped buildings, itself reminiscent of a train. While you're there, don't miss the S. R. Crown Hall, one of the architect's major works and finest examples of modern architecture. A new addition to the complex has recently seen the light of day, in the form of the McCormick Tribune Campus, designed by Rem Koolhaas, who was inspired by and then detached from Mies. Above the building - one might even say within the building, the line of the "L" has been run through a large metal tube, the lower part of which forms the roof of the building. And yet, you can't hear a thing - or not much. If you're discreet, you can visit - legally - this absolutely magnificent part of the campus. Attention budding architects and others! Discovering the campus is a pleasant and relaxing way to get to know the students.
