CENTENNIAL FOUNTAIN
Fountain northeast of the bridge on Michigan Avenue throwing a powerful jet of water across the Chicago River.
The Centennial Fountain is located along the Chicago River. It can be reached on foot by walking down the stairs of the northeast pier of the bridge on Michigan Avenue and continuing east at the foot of the modern apartment buildings overlooking the river. Dedicated in 1989 for the centennial of the Chicago River Water Sanitation Committee, the fountain shoots its powerful jet of water across the river every hour in summer, from 10 a.m. to midnight, for ten minutes. At night, the spray is illuminated by powerful spotlights.
