MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART
Chicago's Museum of Contemporary Art near the Magnificient Mile hosting national and international temporary exhibitions.
Located just off the Magnificent Mile in River North between the Water Tower and the Hancock Observatory, the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago is a large, immaculate building with a four-story central atrium that is particularly suited to contemporary art. It presents temporary national and international exhibitions of painting, sculpture, photography, graphic design and other visual arts. Performances are regularly held on site, giving the museum a lively and contemporary feel. It is also a museum that showcases many of Chicago's committed contemporary artists, with a more liberal and unconventional positioning, the opposite of the Art Institute of Chicago, which is much more conservative in its exhibitions and artistic stances.
The MCA is a must-see museum in Chicago if you like contemporary art and want to learn more about the city itself and current artistic trends. Finally, if you get hungry after the visit, be sure to have lunch at the museum's new restaurant, Marisol, with a designer look of course, named after a Parisian-born American-Venezuelan muse of Andy Warhol, some of whose works are on display at the museum. Based on light and creative recipes, it's the perfect stop for a quick and cheap meal, just to get your strength back before continuing your visit of Chicago.
