WELLS STREET
Old Town's main street with galleries and an annual art festival, stores and restaurants
Wells Street has been the main street in Old Town since its inception in the 1800s. At that time, German immigrants set up their farms on this site and began to sell their products there. Gradually, the street - named after Captain William Wells, hero of the Battle of Fort Dearborn in 1812 - became a commercial centre. Every year, at the beginning of June, an art festival is held in the street galleries (www.chicagoevents.com). The rest of the time, you can enjoy the few shops and restaurants that are installed there.
