This walk in the heart of downtown Chicago follows the Chicago River for 1.3 miles to Lake Michigan. Construction began in 2001 and work is scheduled to continue until 2016. It is very popular with Chicagoans who take it by storm during the summer months. When the weather is nice, people come to walk around, enjoy its restaurants and rest areas such as the River Theater, a flight of steps overlooking the river. The Riverwalk also offers privileged access to boats and boats that go on excursions on the river and lake.
