CLOUD GATE
In the heart of Millennium Park, the drop-shaped mirror work by sculptor Anish Kapoor has become the emblem of Chicago.
Sculptor Anish Kapoor's Cloud Gate is a giant 110-ton 3D mirror, shaped like a drop of liquid mercury or a large bean. In fact, that's what Chicagoans call it: the " bean ". Its curves reflect the Chicago skyline and the people who stroll along it. The metal surface of the giant bean was polished for five months in early 2004 to remove lines and cylinder marks; today, it is perfectly smooth, and the eye is only drawn to the distorted reflections.
