CHICAGO CULTURAL CENTER
Cultural Center with a huge hall hosting a large number of cultural events, concerts and exhibitions.
The Cultural Center holds a special place in the hearts of the residents. Popular and open, it hosts a wide range of cultural events, almost daily concerts in the large café, as well as exhibitions. Don't miss "Chicago Landmarks" on the first floor, which shows photos of the city's iconic buildings. The building is also worth visiting for its splendid mosaics on the floors, walls and staircases, but also for its two Tiffany domes (in the same style as the one in the Galeries Lafayette in Paris) and its two imposing staircases decorated with semi-precious stones. One of these staircases - the one on the Washington Street side - is called the "Bridge of Sighs", in reference to the Venetian bridge (some of the marble comes from Italy; it is even said that the Italian marble in the Cultural Center is the same one used by Michelangelo for his David). The Cultural Center still has the GAR Room, a huge room used for receptions and weddings, which can be visited. The Cultural Center is the location of Chicago's main tourist office.
Mount Rushmore Mural. At the end of 2017, the west facade of the building was covered with a gigantic mural, entitled Mount Rushmore, created by artist Kerry James Marshall, and which depicts the faces of 20 women who have marked the history of Chicago. Among them are African-American poet Gwendolyn Brooks, Cuban journalist Achy Obejas and famous talk show host Oprah Winfrey.
