STURGEON BAY SHIP CANAL LIGHTHOUSE
Automated white lighthouse at the entrance to the excavated channel east of Sturgeon Bay, accessible only by boat.
This white lighthouse was built at the entrance to the canal dug east of Sturgeon Bay. Since 1873, there have been several lighthouses. The one we see today was erected in 1899 and automated in 1972. A stone's throw away, at the end of the pier, the pretty Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal Pierhead Lighthouse painted all red signals the entrance to the canal. The lighthouses of Chambers Island, Rock Island, Plum Island and Pilot Island, in the Dead Gate Strait, are accessible only by boat.
