PENDARVIS HISTORIC SITE
Mineral Point's half-air, half-indoor museum tracing the lives of Cornish miners.
The history of Mineral Point tells the story of the conquest of the American West. From 1830 to 1849, it was hastily built to accommodate the miners who had come to exploit the subsoil. Stone houses were built on the English model, and life for the miners continued until the discovery of gold in California was announced in 1849. That very evening, dozens of wagons left Mineral Point, obeying the call of this new Eldorado. Pendarvis, an indoor/outdoor museum, traces the lives of these Cornish miners.
