Museum to discover the unusual story of Erik Satie

Composer, pianist, painter and literary enthusiast, Erik Satie was a perfect fit with the identity of his native Honfleur. Ironically, when he entered the Paris Conservatory of Music in 1879, his teachers did not think much of his career. Yet he went on to collaborate with some of the greatest artists of his time (Picasso, Picabia, Cocteau), influencing Debussy, Ravel and Stravinsky. It’s the atypical story of this extraordinary artist that you’ll discover in this museum. It’s a total immersion in the artist’s poetry.

N'y allez pas. Ne perdez ni votre temps ni votre argent. Vous n'apprendrez rien ni sur Erik Satie ni sur son œuvre. Vous ne verrez pas non plus la maison dont l'intérieur est défiguré. Il n'est proposé au visiteur qu'un parcours hétéroclite à travers ce que la Modernité nomme des 'performances'.

Idée originale mais réalisation échouée. L'audioguide, utilisé dans 3 pièces, est le plus souvent sans rapport avec le décor (deux chaises et trois photocopies de partitions). Enchaînement de citations et d'extraits musicaux aléatoires.
Seule réussite : pour les enfants, un carrousel musical qui prend vie à la force des jambes.

A wonderful museum, with plenty of thought provoking surprises! A great experience matching the quirky character and beautiful musical legacy of Satie. Snippets of his life, figments of imagination, plenty of musical treats, including a piano played by invisible hands...expect magic and be ready to be surprised.
