THE CITY BREWERY
The City Brewery, the local La Crosse brewery, holds the world record of the largest pack of beer. Their famous "Six Pack" is quite impressive indeed. It contains 2 600 000 litres of beer, and it takes you 3 351 years to come to an end, at six beers a day. The "Six Pack" is actually six large containers within which the beer ferments after several boiling processes. Founded by John Gund, the City Brewery contributed greatly to the economic boom of La Crosse. She changed his name in 1890 to become the Heileman Brewing Company, named after John Gund's partner. Until 1987, Heilemann B. Co ceased production, reaching its maximum level of activity in 1953, after a sharp drop in production during the years of prohibition between 1920 and 1933. In 1987, an Australian bought the company and squandered it completely, selling the name and brand to competing breweries. In 2000, a group of local investors decided to buy the brewery, and named City Brewery in honour of its founder, John Gund. Since 2000 the City Brewery, which employs two hundred cinquantes, produces and sells its beer throughout the state of Wisconsin as well as Iowa, Minnesota and Illinois.
