AERIAL LIFT BRIDGE

Transporter bridge with metallic structure inaugurated in 1905, going up and down in two and a half minutes nearly 26 times a day
This steel-framed ferry bridge was inaugurated in 1905. Designed after the Rouen bridge, the first bridge, with its retractable deck system, served for twenty years. In 1925, it was realized that ship traffic was too heavy and the removal of the deck too long. The engineers invented a new system: the deck is now raised by a system of pulleys that raise the deck above the boats. It goes up and down about 26 times a day, and its rise and fall time is two and a half minutes.
