REGENT'S MOSQUE (MASJED-E VAKIL)
Superb mosque of Vakil built during the Zand period (1751-1773) and redesigned during the Qadjar period (19th century). It is located at one of the entrances to the large Vakil bazaar. Articulated around its inner courtyard, the Vakil Mosque features two large iwans to the north and south and splendid marble sculptures. The original structure has two prayer rooms, one of which is monumental and supported by 48 columns. Also note the vaulted mihrab and the magnificent minbar (pulpit) carved in a monolithic block of alabaster. Mosaics and earthenware with floral decoration also interesting on the huge pink portico (Qadjar period).
