MUNICIPAL MUSEUM
The Mairie town Hall, recognizable by its large clock, has an interesting museum, a little fourre, where everyone can find satisfaction. The basement of the building displays a nice bazaar with a beautiful range of photos from the old Tabriz and many antiques (lamps, calculators, old projectors, surgical tools and other related utensils…) as well as a piece dedicated to a collection of shoes.
It is worth pointing out to win the ground floor where ceramics, terracotta figurines, instruments of old or modern music… A room is devoted to the mayors of Tabriz and their achievements or passions.
But it's mainly on the floor, in front of the extraordinary collection of carpets ordered by the municipality in 1941, to decorate the town hall. An impressive book of 7 m on the ground is surrounded by other carpets of 7 m by 5 or 8 m by 4 which, if they were all seen together from the sky in a certain provision, would give the impression of being only one gigantic carpet.
From 1943 to 1979, they decorated the reception halls of the town hall. After the Islamic Revolution, the hall served as a mosque and the carpets used prayer before they decided to preserve and expose them.
Before you continue your visit to the city, don't miss a walk in the gardens, where you can admire the clock tower. Its mechanism is the same as that of Big Ben. Unfortunately, access to floors is prohibited for security reasons, but work has been undertaken to make this possible in 2018. The town hall, also built in 1934 by a German architect, is a reference to the eagle of the Third Reich, with two large wings deployed on both sides of the tower.
