MAUSOLEUM OF FARID OD-DIN ATTAR

The great mystic poet Attar (1150-1220), also known as the Prince of Lovers, rests in a small octagonal building surmounted by a turquoise dome. Note the tombstone of the xivth century. Persian poet born in Kashan, exiled to Nishapur and murdered by the Mongols in 1220, he is the author of romanesque epics and will inspire later largely Hafez. His most famous works remain the Book of Khosro and, above all, the Bird Dialog (or Bird Colloquium), written as allegory. A fairy tale of the fana's search, a close-to-eclectic term, the pilgrims are symbolized by birds parties in search of divine wisdom. Some die on the way.
