ANCIENT CITY OF TUS AND FERDOWSI MEMORIAL
Founded at the time of Alexander the Great, the ancient town of Fetus will be devastated by the Mongols. Nouveau in 1389 by the armies of Timur, Foetuses will finally be abandoned during the th century. Elements of the citadel walls and a th century bridge are the only remains of this ancient and glorious city. The current village, famous throughout the country, houses the mausoleum of the Persian poet Ferdowsi, author of the Shâh Nâmeh (the Book of Kings) and native of Foetuses, along with the Vizier Nizim al-Molk.
Mausoleum of Harun al Rashid (Gonbad-e Haruniyeh)
Dating back to the th century, it is the only remaining standing of the old town of Fetus. The local tradition attributed it to Harun al Rashid - whose remains are supposed to be buried alongside that of Imam Reza in Machhad - but assumptions about his origin differ. Some even speak of former Islamic fire temple dating back to the th century.
Mémorial Memorial
The Mémorial Memorial (940-1020) rises to the supposed location of its tomb in the heart of a beautiful park. A modern stone work, this mausoleum was built in 1933 in commemoration of the millennium of the death of the poet. A neo-classical bill, the disparate architectural elements inspired part of the achaemenid era. In addition, the whole is the style of the tomb of Cyrus, supplemented by Capitals capitals and the symbol of Ahura Mazda. A small museum, located below the mausoleum, shows contemporary bas-reliefs, illustrating episodes of the Shâh Nâmeh. After the Islamic Revolution, the mullahs ordered the dismantling of the memorial, judged not to be in conformity with the strict religious line. Today, the public is re-open to the public, with its «great man», who is now praising the decisive work that has been done to safeguard the Farsi language, which is at the time being jeopardised by Arabic.
