FRIDAY MOSQUE (MASJED-E JAMEH)
Founded in the th century, the ensemble will be renovated under the Timourids in the th century. At the entrance, take the time to detail the decorations of the beautiful wooden door worked with geometric motifs (th century). The portal, exceptionally high and narrow, is surmounted by the highest minarets in Iran - 57 m - features of the th century yazidie architecture. Also note inside, the royal edicts inscribed on the walls of the vestibule between the th and th centuries. The voûte of the iwan leading to the closed courtyard is covered with stalactites enamelled enamelled earthenware. Let us also remember the four qanats, part of the network of underground channels, intended to feed the city in water and necessary to? the faithful. One of them dates back to the fourth century BC.
Inside, the plan of the mosque boils down to a two-iwans courtyard connected to a dome room where the mirhab is located. The latter is worth a detailed look! Dated the th century, it is decorated with tiles, the motifs of which echo the lotus flower.
During the visit of the southern iwan, note the decorative decorations dating back to the qadjar period. You can also see, protected by glass panels that the pilgrims touch with veneration, the name of Allah repeated dozens of times and accompanied by swastikas.
Four side prayer rooms complete the whole with beautiful openings as well. See the double dome adorned with elegant tiled mosaics.
