BAZAAR-E VAKIL (REGENT'S BAZAAR)
3 km long Labyrinth, covered with cupola, this colorful bazaar dates largely from the seventeenth century. A museum, a few mosques, Khans (caravansals) and two superb tea houses are integrated. As everywhere, places are divided into areas reserved for traditional trades such as boilermakers or carpet sellers. Here, ferblantiers work copper because of the proximity of very rich mining mines. The techniques used range from simple chewing of sheets of copper or tin to scissors and difficult decorative inlays on an incised metal background. You can also sit in the center of the bazaar on the inner courtyard, Ganj Ali Khan. The old guys sit down and chat.
To attack your visit, choose from the main square, the left-hand lane, where all the carpet dealers are located, or the right, where is everything else! The carpets will allow you to admire a sumptuous caravanserail completely renovated and transformed into art gallery (see shopping section). The other aisle will take you to the more picturesque parts of the bazaar, where it makes good escape, lost and discover confidential tea houses where pleasantly pleasing.
You're going to attack the darkest veneers and sellers of chinoisets, and you'll attack the darker veneers from spice. curry, saffron, curcuma… everything tastes, everything is bought, and of course everything is negotiated! Plan to spend time on this visit, which is worth a visit.
A major step on the silk road, until the beginning of the twentieth century, Kerman became the main caravan shopping center in southeast Iran. Natural relay to India, the bazaar had a large Hindu community at the time. Several dozen different tribes and gypsies from the province of Kerman are from the great Indian subcontinent.
